  • is the proud owner and operator of Pride Counseling since 1998, Utah's first openly out and LGBTQIA+ affirming practice. With a commitment to addressing the diverse mental health needs of the LGBTQIA+ community, Pride Counseling stands as a visible and culturally viable resource.

    As a former Associate Professor at the University of Utah Graduate School of Social Work, Jerry brings extensive knowledge and expertise to his practice. He has served on various boards including the Utah Aids Foundation, Pride Center Advisory Board for Mental Health, Naraya Cultural Preservation Council (focusing on Native American Traditions), and as Chair for Sage Utah serving the 50+ LGBTQIA+ community.

    Jerry has actively participated in Reconciliation and Dialogue groups for ten years, collaborating with professionals from different socio-political and religious backgrounds to address ethical practices regarding sexual orientation and gender identity therapies. His dedication extends beyond his professional life; he is a loving husband of 28 years, a father of one, and grandfather of three.

    In addition to his counseling work, Jerry co-organized Inspirit—a community endeavor introducing earth-based approaches to spirituality. He has been mentored in various indigenous earth-based systems such as Native American traditions, Andean practices, Amazonian influences, Dagara (Burkina Faso), and Mongolian Shamanism.

    For over 25 years now, Jerry has facilitated ceremonies worldwide while guiding individuals through spiritual journeys. His vast experience allows him to support people in their personal growth processes across cultures.

  • John Cottrell is originally from Oakland, California and now resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. John is formally educated in clinical psychology having earned a Master of Science and Ph.D. from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California.

    John moved to Salt Lake City in 1994 for his clinical psychology internship with Valley Mental Health. There he gained a broad range of experience including: child and adolescent psychotherapy, drug and alcohol treatment, psychological and neuropsychological testing, and group/couples therapy.

    John has always been fascinated with fitness and became devoted to this lifestyle in 1999. While still working as a psychotherapist, John taught fitness classes ranging from weight lifting to hip hop dance aerobics in the gym. John added yoga to his fitness routine in 2000. He has been able to use his education in psychology and devotion to fitness and yoga to understand and offer the benefits of a body and mind connection.

    As a certified yoga instructor (E-RYT 500, 1000 hour), personal trainer, and sports nutritionist, John offers a variety of ways to create healthy living. John also started his own business, “mbody,” in 2008 and offers Yoga Therapy as a Certified Yoga Therapist (IAYT), Nutrition Coaching, Personal Training, private and group yoga lessons, workshops, and retreats. Mbody also offers its own men’s yoga clothing line, designed by John, and marketed successfully to studios on a national level. John’s latest venture has been in writing. He has self-published several books including “Yoga With Intention: A Yogic Life Journey from Awareness to Honoring,” “Some More Yoga, Please,” and “Embrace the Positive: Letting Go of Negative Thinking.”

  • is a certified nutritionist helping people address chronic disease issues with evidence-based nutrition practices. He teaches how to be budget-conscious when grocery shopping and meal prepping for optimal health. Nick listens to his clients and works with them to create a sustainable nutritional protocol that speaks to the unique demands of their everyday lives.
